Play a lot of live blackjack and the money I see people burning by not following basic strategy is painful.

Standing on soft 17: Always hit or double if dealer shows 3-6.
Not splitting 8s against a 10: Still better than playing 16.
Taking insurance: Terrible bet, massive house edge. Don't take it.

Print out a basic strategy chart and keep it next to you. Most online casinos don't care. It'll save you a ton.

Totally agree with your breakdown, the basic strategy errors people make are wild. It's like they're actively trying to donate money to the house. Beyond what you mentioned, a couple others I consistently observe that really hurt people's long-term odds:
  1. Not doubling down on 11 against a dealer's upcard of 2-10. That's a significant edge to miss.
  2. Hitting a hard 12 against a dealer's 4, 5, or 6. You stand there, plain and simple.
  3. Splitting 10s. Never, ever split 10s. You've already got a great hand. It's foundational stuff that makes such a difference.
